Song of the day...Look After Me by Hot Chip.
Today was a day full of looking after things. I happened to hear this song while I was walking somewhere talking care of this detail or that detail and I heard this song and I thought...HEY YEAH...we all need to look after each other each day.
Easy to forget when we get in the groove of all the details of life...but just a little something something for those around us never hurts.
A gloomy Monday in the middle of August...driving to work...wishing I was on vacation or climbing back in bed to take a nap!
A song saved me and it is from Wilco "Either Way". A song about accepting the uncertainty of the every day, of sobriety, of relationship, of the weather. It matched perfectly to the day.
It starts out like this..."maybe the sun will shine today, the clouds will blow away...maybe I won't feel so afraid...I will try to understand...either way..."
The song of the day today is The Underdog by Spoon. Today was a day to ponder the things we don't want to hear, the things we don't want to see, and what we can learn from those moments if we allow ourselves that opportunity. The youth group kids decided to help to put together backpacks of necessary treasures and necessities for women and teens in particular on the street...but for men too. In order for us all to survive we have to listen to the underdogs in our society...why are they there and what if anything can we do to better listen to their stories.
Side note on the first entry of my blog Wall of Death...I later learned that same day my husband had listened to that song twice in two different versions and hadn't heard it for a long time...is that coincidence or part of a shared consciousness? Will I find that my song of the days make sense to others as well cause we're all being given similar messages within a given 24 hour period?
Time to ponder that...
Today when I first became aware of consciousness and the sun shining outside the song DAYS (first by the Kinks, then Kirsty MacColl, then Elvis Costello)...
"I thank you for the days the endless days those sacred days you gave me. I'm thinking of the days I won't forget a single day believe me, I bless the light, I bless the light that lights on you"
This is a perfect song for today this summer day.
Thank you for this day this sacred day...may I make the most of it.
I am starting this blog with the idea that every day has a song in it that somehow stands out as key to the day. It is a goal to write more every day, so I am hoping this will force me to do that.
The song of the day for 8/10/07 is Richard Thompson's Wall of Death. I love this song and it is a favorite from college days. We have yelled it out at Richard Thompson concerts and he has played it for us, or humored us, whatever, it made us happy. Last night we heard that Richard Thompson was coming to town to play. I had mixed feelings about whether to attend this concert or not for a variety of reasons, but this morning I grabbed a book to read and totally at random the first page I flipped to a phrase jumped out at me...WALL OF DEATH. It referred to the amusement park ride that the song is named for, not the song, but never mind, it convinced me I should go to see the concert. Also when I went to wake my son for work today another Richard Thompson song was playing which was one more reminder. My answer to the universe was to buy tickets today for the concert. I will try to sit away from the geezer section so I don't get depressed.
